The poem for this week is The Knight.

Once upon a time there was a knight who rode
over the hills,
and killed a dragon,
and set fifteen women free
from an enchanter who kept the prisoners in a tower
and found a castle where they could live,
and rode on to the desert
where two kings were fighting a war that never ended
waved a magic shield over the battle
so all the soldiers stopped fighting and said,
"What are we here for?"
And then the knight turned and rode back,
through the desert, past the tower, over the hills,
and when she got home
she took off her armour, patted the cat and made
herself a cup of tea.

Mentos and Coke experiment

Mentos and Coke experiment

(1)What happens when you put Mentos into Coke?

(2)What comes out of a Coke bottle when you put Mentos and Coke into it?

(3)How does it explode?

Word bank: carbon dioxide, coke, mix, bottle, fizz, form, explode,

What you need!

bottle

Coke

Mentos

spoon

adult

Prediction: I predict that the bottle with the Coke in it will expand and then explode everywhere when you put the Mentos into it.

Answers to questions up the top!

(1)The thing that happends when you put Mentos into Coke is that it will explode all over the place.

(2)The fome that comes out of a Coke bottle when you put Mentos into it is Coke all fizzed up.

(3)This is how it explodes. First the Coke and the Mentos comes together and then comes into an air bubble and because the air bubble gets bigger it had to explode.

Diagram

What actually happend when it exploded was that it didn't fizz up or go all over the place. All it did was stayed the same, how it was before.

I hope we can do the Coke and Mentos explosion again.

WARNING!!!
You need an adult to help you.

Dressing up for dinner

You will need a large block of chocolate, a flat tin plate, a knife and fork, a dice, and an old hat and coat.
The guests sit in a circle with the chocolate, plate, knife, fork, hat, coat etc. In the middle.

Each person rolls the dice. If a six is thrown, the player gets up, runs to the centre, puts on the hat and then, picks up the knife and fork and begins to eat the chocolate. One square is cut off at a time, and that must be just with fingers before the next piece is cut off.

While this player is eating, the rest of the team takes it turns to throw the dice. When another six is thrown, that guests runs to the centre, takes the hat and coat from the previous person, gets dressed and begins to cut the chocolate.

(If many six are thrown one after the other, there is a big rush as people begin to put on the coat only to have another person race out and take it after them.)

Word bank: centre, six, large, block, chocolate, cut, thrown, hat, coat,

On the weekend I saw six large birds sitting in the centre of the soccer field.

I got a large block of chocolate from the shops and cut it into six bits.

I got a new coat and hat from the shops.

What I play

Every Saturday I play soccer. I started playing soccer last year. The reason why I decided to play soccer was because I would have to watch my sister play soccer and her games took to long. My sister has been playing soccer for three years but I have only played it for two.

The first time I started playing I was really nervous and shy because I did not know anyone on my team. But when I found out that Emma was on my team I was so exited because she is my friend. On the next game Emma was there and I had met some more people on my team.

On the third game our team played against Parfait. We beat them. All my team was exited that we won. After the game we got lollies from our coach. The lollies were really yummy. After we got the lollies my mum and me went to go to my sisters game. When we got to my sisters game we asked her friends mum if they were winning. She said ''no.'' They were losing.

After my sisters friends mum said ''they were losing'' my sister came of because it was half time. My mum talked to my sister and asked her what the score was. My sister said "the score was 2-1." When my sister went back on the field she was midfield. After the game was finished we went home.

I had so much fun playing soccer. It was great.

Pegasus the Winged Horse

Long ago in the faraway land of Lycea in Asia there lived a fierce monster called the Chimera. It breathed fire and smoke from its huge nostrils and devoured anyone who dared to come near it-sheep, catle, man, women, children and even wild beasts. People were afraid to come out of there houses and their king Isobates could neither eat nor rest for worrying how to rid his land of the evil monster. For what man would be so brave as to undertake so dread a task? The monster had no fewer than three heads, a goat's, a lion's and a serpent's and from the three heads there gushed forth long tongues of flame that burned the countryside and spred destruction far and wide. The Chimera's body was like that of a dragon and its tail like that of a boa constrictor.

At that time a brave and noble yong knight, Bellerophon by the name, chanced to be visiting the King of that land. It was Bellerophophon's fondest dream to do some brave and valiant deed, so when the King proposed that he should go out and test his stregth against the Chimera he was only too eager to prepare himself for this mighty task.

Matilda by Roald Dahl

Matilda is a great book for readers in Grade 3-5. It tells the story of a 5 year old girl named Matilda. Matilda is a very bright girl. She started talking when she was one year old and could read fluently when she was five. All her parents thought of her was a noisy little chatterbox. At Matilda's school there is a very mean Headmistress called Miss Trunchbull. She is very violent and doesn't seem to like children. Then there is Matilda's teacher called Miss Honey who is nice to everyone. This wonderful book tells about the wonderful adventures of Matilda what type of special powers she gets. If you like the sound of this book go down to your local or school library to read it and be amazed by Matilda.

The magic carpet!!! ( Egypt)

Once upon a time i was on a magic carpet. I had no idea that I was on a magic carpet. I got really, really hot. I looked down and I wanted to know where I was. I saw a big pyramid. I had a better idea where was. I said, '' I'm in Egypt.''

''How did I get here? I asked. I felt a little wind. I was taller than all the pyramids. I saw birds next to me. I was patting them. I said ''Am I dreaming? I shut my eyes and pinched my self real hard and I woke up. I was dreaming.

I said '' I had a great time but I am glad I'm home.''
